Generate up to 500 Code 128 barcodes in a single batch with our free bulk Code 128 barcode generator. There is no signup, no watermark, and nothing to install — every barcode is created locally in your browser, so your product data is never uploaded to any server. Whether you are labelling warehouse inventory, printing shipping labels, or tracking assets across multiple sites, you can paste your data, preview print-ready barcodes, and download them as PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, or a single ZIP file in seconds.

What is Code 128?

Code 128 is a high-density, variable-length linear barcode symbology that can encode the full 128-character ASCII set — uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, punctuation, and control characters. Developed in 1981, it has become the workhorse of logistics, shipping, and inventory management because it packs a large amount of data into a compact, reliably scannable symbol.

The symbology defines three character subsets, and encoders switch between them automatically to keep each symbol as short as possible. Code 128-A encodes uppercase letters, digits, and ASCII control characters. Code 128-B covers the full printable ASCII set, including lowercase letters. Code 128-C encodes pairs of digits, which doubles data density for long numeric strings such as serial numbers. A widely used supply-chain variant, GS1-128 (formerly UCC/EAN-128), adds standardised application identifiers for data like batch numbers, best-before dates, and SSCC shipping container codes. If you would like a deeper dive, read our complete Code 128 barcode guide.

Because it is compact, dependable, and supported by virtually every barcode scanner ever made, Code 128 is the default choice for internal labelling: warehouse shelf labels, parcel tracking numbers, asset tags, order-picking labels, and laboratory specimen tracking. Retailers generally use EAN-13 or UPC on consumer packaging, but behind the scenes it is Code 128 that keeps the supply chain moving.

Choosing the right subset matters when you generate barcodes in bulk. If your data is purely numeric — for example, long serial or order numbers — subset C produces symbols roughly half the width of the other subsets, which saves label space and improves scan reliability at small sizes. For product codes that mix letters and digits, subset B is the safest all-round choice. Our generator handles the encoding for you, so you only need to select Code 128 and enter your values.

How to generate Code 128 barcodes in bulk

You can create hundreds of Code 128 barcodes in four simple steps:

  1. Step 1 – Enter your data. Paste one value per line directly into the generator, import a CSV file exported from Excel or Google Sheets, or generate sequential numbers automatically. Our step-by-step Excel and CSV guide shows exactly how to prepare your spreadsheet.
  2. Step 2 – Select Code 128 as the barcode type. Pick the subset that matches your data — subset C for long numeric strings, subset B for mixed letters and numbers.
  3. Step 3 – Set the size and appearance. Adjust bar height, bar width, and margins to suit your label stock, and add human-readable text beneath each symbol if you need it.
  4. Step 4 – Generate and download. Click generate to create up to 500 barcodes at once, preview the batch to check every symbol, then download your files as PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, or all barcodes together in a ZIP archive.

Frequently asked questions

Is this bulk Code 128 generator really free?

Yes. You can generate unlimited batches of up to 500 barcodes each with no signup, no watermark, and no hidden charges.

What kind of data can Code 128 encode?

Code 128 encodes the full ASCII character set, so it handles letters, numbers, and symbols. For long numeric strings, subset C encodes digit pairs and produces much shorter barcodes.

Do I need a GS1 registration to use Code 128?

No. Unlike UPC or EAN retail barcodes, plain Code 128 requires no registration or company prefix. Only the GS1-128 supply-chain variant uses GS1 application identifiers.

Will my barcodes scan reliably?

Yes, provided you print them at a sensible size with strong dark-on-light contrast. Always test-scan a sample batch before printing hundreds of labels.
