Generate up to 500 UPC barcodes in a single batch with our free bulk UPC barcode generator. There is no signup, no watermark, and nothing to install — every barcode is created locally in your browser, so your product data is never uploaded to any server. Whether you are labelling products for North American retail shelves, preparing small-package barcodes, or building codes for marketplace listings, you can paste your data, preview print-ready symbols, and download them as PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, or a single ZIP file in seconds.

What is UPC?

UPC (Universal Product Code) is the standard retail barcode symbology of North America. The most common variant, UPC-A, encodes 12 numeric digits: a GS1 company prefix that identifies the brand owner, a product reference number, and a final check digit that scanners use to verify the code. Almost every packaged product sold in US and Canadian stores — from groceries to electronics — carries a UPC-A on its packaging.

A second variant, UPC-E, compresses the same product identity into just 8 digits for small packages where a full-size barcode will not fit, such as cosmetics, chewing-gum packs, and pharmaceutical vials. UPC-E achieves this by suppressing runs of zeros in the number system and manufacturer code; at the checkout, the scanner expands it back to the full 12-digit UPC-A automatically.

Both variants belong to the GS1 system, which means products sold at retail need a genuine GTIN-12 licensed from GS1 — you cannot simply invent numbers for goods you sell in stores. The final digit of every UPC-A is a modulo-10 check digit calculated from the other eleven, and our generator validates each code before creating the barcode, so mistyped numbers are flagged instead of printed. To understand how the three retail symbologies compare, read our UPC-A vs UPC-E vs EAN-13 comparison.

When you generate UPC barcodes in bulk, data accuracy is everything — a single mistyped digit produces a different product identity. That is why preparing your list in a spreadsheet first pays off: you can sort, deduplicate, and validate hundreds of codes at once before importing the CSV into the generator. Our bulk tool then encodes every value, flags anything that fails the check-digit test, and lets you download the full batch in the format your printer or label software expects.

How to generate UPC barcodes in bulk

You can create hundreds of UPC barcodes in four simple steps:

  1. Step 1 – Enter your data. Paste your 12-digit UPC-A codes — or 8-digit UPC-E codes for small packages — one per line, import a CSV file exported from Excel or Google Sheets, or generate sequential numbers automatically. Our step-by-step Excel and CSV guide shows exactly how to prepare your spreadsheet.
  2. Step 2 – Select UPC as the barcode type. Choose UPC-A for standard retail packaging, or UPC-E when label space is tight.
  3. Step 3 – Set the size and appearance. Adjust bar height, bar width, and margins to meet retailer specifications, and keep the human-readable digits printed below the symbol.
  4. Step 4 – Generate and download. Click generate to create up to 500 barcodes at once, preview the batch to verify every symbol, then download your files as PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, or all barcodes together in a ZIP archive.

Frequently asked questions

Is this bulk UPC generator really free?

Yes. You can generate unlimited batches of up to 500 barcodes each with no signup, no watermark, and no hidden charges.

What is the difference between UPC-A and UPC-E?

UPC-A encodes 12 digits and is the standard for most retail packaging. UPC-E compresses the code to 8 digits for very small packages; scanners expand it back to UPC-A at the checkout.

Do I need a GS1 registration to create UPC barcodes?

For products sold at retail, yes — you need a genuine GTIN-12 licensed from GS1. For internal labelling and testing, any structurally valid 12-digit number will encode and scan.

Can I use UPC barcodes outside North America?

UPC-A symbols scan on equipment worldwide, but retailers outside North America usually expect EAN-13. If you sell internationally, use our bulk EAN-13 barcode generator instead.
